On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, Kogod hosted the first annual Blockchain Forum in the Washington College of Law鈥檚 Claudio Grossman Hall. The gathering brought together experts from the private and public sectors, non-profit leaders and academics to discuss the impact of blockchain technology on the 玉米视频 world.

The half-day event featured keynote speeches, moderated discussions, panel discussions and short 鈥淭ED talks.鈥 Participants included Dr. Tomicah Tillemann, chairman of the Global Blockchain Business Council; Dante Disparte, CEO and 玉米视频 of Risk Cooperative; Mihaela Ulieru of Endor.com; and Jose Arrieta, Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, among many others.

鈥淸In my opinion,] the most valuable thing [about the Forum] is the diversity of thought and different perspectives. It鈥檚 diffusing the unknown and helping people get educated,鈥 said Tim Stitely, one of the Forum panelists and VP and Partner of Federal Healthcare at IBM Global Business Services. 鈥淚t also helps from an industry perspective: helping 玉米视频es learn from each other and share their knowledge at a broader level.鈥

Issues examined included the current state of blockchain, its role as a fad or a transformative technology, different use cases and the future of the technology.

The Kogod Blockchain Forum was conceptualized and organized by Professors Ayman Omar and Bob Sicina as part of a larger blockchain initiative within the school. Over the next year, Omar and Sicina will continue forming a Blockchain Hub in efforts to establish Kogod as a world class blockchain learning and research platform. The Hub includes blockchain courses, research projects/publications, and the Forum as its central component.

When asked why establishing such a Hub is so essential, both to the school and the 玉米视频 world at large, Omar said, 鈥淚 think Blockchain will fundamentally change how 玉米视频es interact with each other, with their customers, and with governments and NGOs. It鈥檚 not a matter of if, but when.鈥
